We began as a record label with one frustration. African artists were making world-class music inside systems that were never built to carry it. Distribution was slow, rights were murky, and the people doing the work rarely owned the upside.
So we built the rest ourselves. Today, 1789 runs label and artistes services, talent management, marketing, distribution, and recording camps services under one roof, joined by a technology layer that keeps artists close to their catalogue, their audience and their money.
We work with artists, producers and music executives across Africa and the diaspora, from a first release to an international rollout. The name is a reminder of the job: change who holds the power.
